Recent Advances in Ballistic Resistance of Lightweight Metal Sandwich Cores

Abstract Sandwich construction has proven to be an excellent low-density multifunctional design for a wide range of applications in ballistic protection, energy absorption, and thermal insulation. Based on the bulletproof effect each layer sandwich structure, this paper expounds summarizes material properties that can used as layer. The mechanical ultra-high strength aramid (Kevlar) molecular weight polyethylene (UHMEPE) composites mixed fibers these two materials versus single fiber materials, properties, chemical stability other aluminum magnesium alloys, effects heat treatment coating finally absorption several common core structures are compared.
